About Nagahara headjoints

Nagahara is viewed as a top flute maker among the flute community and a worthy pioneer in the development of the modern flute and headjoints. Enthusiastic and demanding amateurs to the most famous professional flutists play on Nagahara flutes and headjoints, including "The Man With the Golden Flute", Sir James Galway, for which Nagahara developed his own flute.

Kanichi Nagahara is a somewhat strange exception in the flutemakers landscape that is dominated by Japanese and American makers, as he is Japanese but moved to Boston and is now located in the center of American flute making. He began his career as a flute maker in 1977 at Sankyo in Japan, where he learned the art of headjoint production and dedicated himself to research and development within the company. Ten years later, he moved to the US, where he worked for two famous flute brands in Boston. As of 1991, Nagahara works under his own name and has built an impeccable reputation for building flutes, piccolo's and especially headjoints for over 25 years.

Perhaps the fact that Nagahara has closely studied the art and craft of making flutes and flute head joints from both top Japanese makers and top American makers enabled him to create such exceptionally beautiful and enchanting headjoints.

Currently, between five and ten highly skilled people are working in the small factory to produce the Nagahara flutes and piccolo's. However, all headjoints are still fully handmade by grandmaster Kanichi Nagahara himself. Each headjoint is therefore unique and a work of art on its own. We select all Nagahara headjoints separately ourselves after trying them. Our offer is therefore constantly changing, but we can promise you that every Nagahara headjoint is worth a trip to our store.
