The Altus 1707 is made of almost pure silver (99.7%), which was long seen as being too soft to enable it to be processed into a flute suitable for playing. Altus has developed a new and special process to harden this material, which is now used not only for the manufacture of flute tubes but also for particularly heavily-used mechanical parts of the instrument. The great density of 997 Altus Pure Silver provides the 1707 with a remarkable capacity of sound projection and an evenly distributed brilliant tone colour and a fiery response throughout the flute scale.

The Altus 1707 comes with soldered tone holes, which can only be found on high positioned flutes like this. The SP-1 springs are made of a very expensive alloy of gold, platinum, palladium, silver, copper and zinc. The springs are highly elastic, virtually indestructible and not subject to wear and corrosion.
