About us:

We at Matthew's Music work in a small and dedicated team to help Professional Musicians and their Students express their passion.  In our shop in Edam we have a wide range of Woodwind and Brasswind instruments and accessories in stock. Here we also have our workshop where we are routinely called upon to do repairs from the simple tightening of a screw to complete overhauls.

For the past 15 years we have also translated our philosophy to the internet. As is in our store, we do our utmost to make online purchasing an enjoyable experience. We have extensive experience in international shipping, including those outside the European Union.

History of Matthew's Music

David Crane, who founded the company, grew up and studied flute in New York. In the 1980’s he decided to move to Europe with his young family to continue studying flute with, among others, "L'homme à la Flûte d'Or" -  Jean-Pierre Rampal.

During his work as a professional flutist, David started repairing instruments from home. First flutes and piccolos, but soon also clarinets, trumpets, saxophones and other wind instruments.

Due to the success in repairing and his pleasure in working with musicians, David decided to focus on sales and repairs. In 1983 he started a shop in wind instruments and called it "Matthew's Musical Instruments", named after his son. The workshop soon moved from the family home to the current store in the old center of the beautiful village of Edam in North Holland.

For over 30 years Matthew's has subsequently built a strong reputation nearby but also far beyond The Netherlands. Quality of our products and the best service have always been paramount. This has enabled us to become a preferred address for many beginning to professional players when it comes to buying new instruments and accessories, but also for maintenance and repairs.

Since the new millennium we have been increasingly active in the online environment and have expanded our assortment of accessories. With our new web shop launched in 2016 and a new generation in the company, we are ready to continue the story.

Wind Instruments Shop in Edam, The Netherlands

The Store:

Our physical store is located in a monumental building in the historic center of picturesque Edam, about 20 minutes driving north of Amsterdam. The store has a modest size, but is home to a wide range of products, our repair workshop and an office. The shop has the atmosphere of a studio and breathes the love of music, culture and craftsmanship.

Assortment:

We believe that high quality products, despite a sometimes higher price, are in the long-term always the best choice. After more than thirty years of experience with many different brands, we have therefore been able to make a wide selection of top quality instruments and accessories of which we can guarantee the quality. We offer a wide range of woodwind and brasswind instruments as well as accessories ranging from cases to maintenance articles.

Special mention goes to our selection of flutes and piccolos: good quality flutes for the beginning player, models for ambitious advancing flutists as well as very exclusive Top Professional flutes attract fluists from all over the world.

Personal Service in the Store:

When a customer visits our store in search of an instrument, we make sure to take enough time to assist him/her. In general, we first discuss what the level of experience is, what the wishes and expectations are and which price range he/she is looking at. On this basis we will offer a number of instruments to try. Once the choice has been narrowed we often do a blind test which challenges the listeners to identify the best instrument purely on the basis of sound. Ultimately, of course, the choice rests with the player.

To make sure you get our full attention, it is best to make an appointment since it occasionally, especially on Saturdays, may be busy in our store.

Opening hours, directions and contact information can be found on our Kundenservice page.

Service and Quality Guarantee:

Each instrument, new or used, is always thoroughly checked and test-played before it is delivered to a customer. Even with Brand New instruments it can happen that some minor adjustments need to be made. An instrument purchased at Matthew's Music is adjusted to perfection and free from manufacturing defects.
