This Conn Soprano Saxophone was made in the late 1920’s. The care and attention that builders at the Conn factory lavished on this instrument are clearly visible in the design as well as audible in the sonority of this Beauty.
This Conn is Silver Plated and for pure beauty of sound it is a rival of any Soprano ever built.
This horn is completely original and is in very good condition. We have meticulously re-padded this Conn using Pisoni DeLuxe Pads. All the corks and felts have been replaced.
It plays perfectly and promises years of beautiful and pleasurable Soprano Saxophone Playing.
An email from paulwl (533*) might shed some light on this rather rare Conn Soprano:
"Dear Davy, You and your buyer should know that this is a very unusual soprano sax. It's one of the last straight models made at Conn and is known as the Stretch Model 18M. They are a little longer than previous model 18M (26 3/8 in; 66.75 cm) with a special bore giving them a unique, focused tone. The drawback is that the Stretch model needs its own mouthpiece design - very short with a "throated" chamber. Otherwise it's impossible to tune and plays flat. Pillinger Mouthpieces in England copied the original Conn "S2" piece which is rarer than the horns themselves. I use an original and a copy on my Stretch soprano. Someone will really enjoy playing this sax IF its mouthpiece dimensions are right! Thanks. -Paul"
This Conn came with a King "Equa Tru" mouthpiece. Coming in at 2.4 inches long it is substantially shorter than most soprano mouthpieces and hopefully produces the desired results Paul is describing.
